John 14:15-18, 26
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the
world cannot receive , because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he
dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall
teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance , whatsoever I have said unto you.

  • The Holy Spirit is meant to abide with us forever.  He is a comforter, counselor,
helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener and standby.

  • The Holy Spirit is not for everyone.  He is for the believers in Christ.  He is the
spirit of truth and one of his functions is to teach us

John 15: 26-27
26 But when the Comforter is come , whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit
of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye also shall bear
witness , because ye have been with me from the beginning.

  • One of the chief roles of the Holy Spirit is to testify to Jesus Christ.  He reminds
    us who Christ is.

John 16: 7-15
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away : for if I go not away ,
the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart , I will send him unto you. 8 And when he
is come , he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin ,
because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me
no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged . 12 I have yet many things
to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come ,
he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear ,
that shall he speak : and he will shew you things to come . 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall
receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore
said I , that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

  • The Holy Spirit lives in us to declare to us what the Father says.  He glorifies Jesus.

Acts 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be
witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost
part of the earth.

  • The Holy Spirit gives us power.  He continually generates power in us.

Romans 8:16, 26-28
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as
we ought : but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be
uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he
maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that all things
work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his
purpose.

  • The Holy Spirit bears witness that we belong to Christ.

  • The Holy Spirit helps us when we cannot help ourselves.

Revelation 22:17
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that
is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

  • The Holy Spirit compels people to come to God.
