What does the world say about salvation?
What is the basis for your belief concerning salvation?
What makes Christians think their way is the only way?
Matt 7:13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to
destruction, and many there be which go in thereat : 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is
the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
• The way to salvation is narrow, not broad
John 10:1-10
1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth
up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he that entereth in by the door is the
shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the porter openeth ; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth
his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out . 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he
goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5 And a stranger will they
not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. 6 This parable spake
Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. 7
Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All
that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the
door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have
life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
• Jesus is the “door” to salvation
• Attempting to enter salvation another way makes one a thief (false)
• Ignore the other “voices” in the world
John 14:1-6
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are
many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if
I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I
am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith
unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest ; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith
unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Acts 4:10-12
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom ye crucified , whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand
here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is
become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other
name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
• Jesus is the exclusive path to the Father (heaven, eternal glory)
• He is the correct path that leads to truth and eternal life
• There is no other name given under heaven
What about those who refuse this path?
John 12:47-50
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the
world, but to save the world. 48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that
judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49 For I have
not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should
say, and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting:
whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
John 3:16-18
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to
condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him
is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in
the name of the only begotten Son of God.
• There is no hope, no salvation without Christ
Whenever someone says “all roads lead to the same place” or something similar, try asking them
for the basis of that belief (i.e., why do you believe that?). The answer will typically be
something along the lines of “that’s how I feel”, “it seems right to me” or “that’s what everyone
says.” The key response to this is “Are you really willing to risk your eternal soul on a ‘feeling’
or public opinion?” Sadly, too many people are content to do just that.
